Himawari (向日葵) — sunflower. A painter's head opened like a vase, and everything he ever looked at too hard came pouring out: sunflowers, irises, poppies, a whole garden in thick swirling paint. The post-impressionists learned their colour from Japanese woodblock prints — this is the loop closing. Impasto texture printed as a cut-out on heavyweight garment-dyed cotton. 🎨
